The crescent sun peeked briefly through the darkened sky… then it was gone again.
Seemingly unnoticed by gathered sky watchers the Solar Eclipse was having a strange effect as confused sea birds landed on the cliff tops to bed down for the night. Earlier that morning I’d been woken before first light by every single bird in the area belting out a pre-dawn chorus with the volume switched up to eleven as if announcing the day would somehow be special???
It also happened to be Spring Equinox and a Super Moon… a Cosmic ‘3 for 1’ Special offer.
Not wanting to pass up the opportunity I headed off to spend the rest of the day and night in my favourite woods.
Spring Equinox marks the day when day and night become of equal length but it’s also the tipping point when daylight starts to dominate until late August when the Autumn Equinox and shorter days take over again.
the woodland floor is carpeted with vibrant fresh growth and looks amazing at this time of year
Before long the colour clashing contents of my backpack are suspended from a handy tree and I stick the kettle on
then following a much repeated sequence… set camp
wandering around reveals that someone else is planning to stay a little longer in the woods… I admire their resourcefulness
I head back up to my home for the night along a gently cascading stream
and spend the rest of the afternoon listening to the wildlife going about its business from behind my bug net hideaway
After an evening exploring the area and a refreshing nights sleep I stoke the fire to see off the morning chill
then before packing up and heading home I cook up my Vanilla and Seed breakfast mix which I’ve nicknamed ‘Frog Spawn Porridge’… I’ll share the recipe sometime as despite appearances it actually tastes pretty good!
