It’s my ongoing mission… seeking the perfect compromise between minimum weight and maximum comfort when backpacking.
This little lot tips the scales at 11.5 kilos which is not particularly light but in fairness it all fits in a 58 litre pack and contains my full winter set up with everything for a long weekend including food and a tent stove
This marvel of Titanium weighs 737 grams including the chimney which is less than two tins of Diet Coke.
I’ll explain more about the safety precautions and other details in another post but all you need to know for now is the night temperature dropped to minus 5° while inside it felt more like the Caribbean.
beds are another compromise. I have lighter options but with spiky Sweet Chestnut husks littering the ground this innovative design removes the risk of a punctured air mattresses and is also a joy to sleep on.
with everything set up and dusk approaching it was time to gather firewood and take in my surroundings
Write your story here. (Optional)
By the time I’d cooked and eaten supper it was sleep o’clock.
The full moon gently illuminated the woods overnight so when I needed to get out there was little need for a torch
I surfaced before dawn to watch daylight slowly replace moonlight
and count the streaks across the early morning sky
when the sun popped up over the horizon I headed back to the warmth of my nest
where I drank coffee until the temperature outside matched the inside
After packing up and taking care to leave no trace I slowly bimbled my way back
stopping to study every detail that caught my eye
and to reflect on another enjoyable adventure.
