Living near the sea I’ve been wanting to extend the adventure possibilities for some time so it was just a matter of time before venturing out to sea in search of new perspectives, tranquillity and hopefully the odd mackerel.
After a bout of inertia I found a Perception Scooter sit on kayak for sale. I’d wrongly assumed that a rotomoulded plastic craft (the same stuff wheelie bins are made from) would have huge limitations but to my surprise they are superb in terms of buoyancy, speed, comfort and fun!
but perhaps most of all, the joy is in simply getting outside and being in nature

Author, Adventurer and friend Robert Twigger came along to try out his kayak with an improvised sailing rig complete with freshly harvested bamboo mast. In the absence of an outrigger we formed a rag tag flotilla which made its way slowly in a windward direction. No doubt Rob will tweak his sailing rig before I shamelessly plagiarise his design but a memorable few hours at sea concluded with a cracking sunset which rendered West Bay cliffs bright orange.
Sit on kayaking fits neatly in the realm of bimbling for the simple reason that it requires little effort and it’s easy to spend hours just sitting back, thinking about nothing in particular.
