I’m being melodramatic of course but the alternative title has less of a ring to it……’A couple of years ago I went to West Wales’
Whichever way you look at it this is an unusual bimble, a glimpse into a world that blurs the line between make belief and reality.
Nestled between Mountain and Sea on the Pembrokeshire coast a group of likeminded souls got together and created what has to be one of the most profound examples of low impact living in the country.
Walking down the track you enter another realm, but this isn’t the land of the ‘Lost Tribe’ as a national newspaper once suggested, it’s a shared living space with a deliberate and deep connection to nature…a place where machine gives way to manual labour and food comes wrapped in dirt not cellophane.
residents here live in unique homes which increasingly blend with their environment the further in you venture
It’s a perfect showcase of traditional skills punctuated with appropriate technology
and it’s a Bimbler’s Utopia with something new to stop and contemplate at every turn
Hidden away in the woods are a cluster of low impact dwellings which wouldn’t look out of place in Middle Earth.
I’ve known Emma for many years, she lives a simple life here having hand crafted her home with Love, Straw, Sticks and Clay
Apart from the pond liner under its living roof and window glass from a local skip this dwelling will eventually compost into the ground leaving little if any trace of its beautiful existence.
I’m always lost for words here so will shut up now… but before I go let’s have a quick game of ‘spot the roof’…
