Evernew Titanium Stove

a quick review

Story by Rich Lisney June 30th, 2014

Having spent years messing around with various cooking sets I decided the ideal would be ultralight and small yet man enough to cook a one pot meal… enter the Evernew Titanium Cookset.

The combined DX Stand, meths burner, trivet and mug weighs in at a measly 200 grams, and the mug is the perfect size for hot drinks, featuring silicon covered handles to avoid burnt fingers. I also like the way that everything nests neatly inside the mug.

The DX stand is promoted as being able to use meths or wood for fuel although a cursory look suggests that the burn chamber is too small to get a big enough fire going. After trying the system out for a few weeks using both meths and wood fuel my initial suspicions were confirmed and I wouldn’t bother using the wood fire option, the meths burner looks beautiful and is obviously well made like the mug, but I found it lacking in adjustment, the twin ring of holes means the flame is on high and burns out faster than I liked, maximum burn time is around 12 minutes although you can place the mug directly on the top ring of holes so only the lower ring burns. The trivet is a nice touch and if it was all about Ultralight I would probably just use this instead of the DX stand.

The DX is a good example of style over substance, it looks good and is quite tactile but the small size and finishing touches let it down.

I wasn’t impressed with this Evernew system so sold mine but having said that, most of their titanium products are much better quality. Verdict: It failed to reach a rolling boil so not worth the £130 price tag, and inferior to the Caldera Cone or standard Trangia cook set.
